Commissioned by Vince for The Good Agency to shoot a series of portraits of altruistic kidney donors.
Creative portraits with life and character
Kidney Research UK set out to highlight the extraordinary generosity of altruistic kidney donors—people who gave the gift of life to strangers they had never met. Working with The Good Agency, I was commissioned to create a series of portraits that could capture both the humanity and quiet heroism of these individuals.
The creative challenge was to convey dignity and authenticity without over-staging. I chose a clean, pared-back style that allowed the focus to remain firmly on the donors themselves. Each portrait was designed to give a sense of calm strength—ordinary people doing something truly extraordinary.
These images became central to Kidney Research UK’s Make Your Mark campaign, sparking national awareness of altruistic donation. The portraits helped to frame the donors not just as participants in a medical story, but as inspiring figures whose decisions could change lives.
For me, the project was a reminder of the power of portraiture to carry weight beyond the frame. By capturing donors in a way that was both intimate and impactful, the photographs gave a human face to a complex and life-changing issue.
