Story

During a period of financial pressure at Butterfly House Hospice, I was commissioned by expert fundraiser Jane Franklin to document the hospice’s work for a fundraising pack, designed to engage and secure support from major donors. I’m delighted to say that the hospice is now thriving.

Butterfly House Hospice plays a vital role in providing compassionate palliative care, supporting patients and their families at some of the most difficult times of life. During a period of financial pressure, I was commissioned by expert fundraiser Jane Franklin to document the hospice’s work for a major fundraising campaign. The aim was to create a set of images that could speak directly to potential donors, showing both the humanity of the care and the urgent need for support.

I spent time within the hospice, capturing portraits of staff, carers, and the spaces where life-changing support takes place. The challenge was to balance sensitivity with honesty—showing the reality of end-of-life care without losing sight of the warmth, dignity, and compassion that defines the hospice.

The resulting images were used to build a fundraising pack designed to engage and inspire major donors. By placing the people at the heart of the story, the photography helped Butterfly House Hospice communicate its mission with authenticity and strength. I am delighted to say that the campaign was successful, and the hospice is now thriving.

This project was a reminder of how visual storytelling can play a direct role in sustaining vital services. Photographs not only documented what was happening but helped secure the funding that allows care, dignity, and comfort to continue for those who need it most.
